The Gold Prospectors of Colorado are coming back to Breckenridge to take over the Blue River Plaza for three days of historical fun!

Come learn how to pan for gold and watch the 2019 Gold Panning Championships unfold on Main Street. Everyone is invited to learn the basics of Gold Panning and all necessary tools will be provided. Come participate, or just watch others pan for gold!

Breck's Gold Mining History:

Did you know that the town of Breckenridge got its start as a gold mining town in the mid-1800s? While you're here, spend some time learning about the town's history! 

Visit the Breckenridge Welcome Center: 

The center features interactive exhibits about the town's history, and you can also sign up for a guided tour of the town! Located at the edge of the Blue River Plaza, stop in after enjoying the Gold Panning Championships! 

Take a Tour of an Old Mine: 

Breckenridge has a few old mines that have been preserved and are available for tours!

  • Lomax Placer Mine
    Take a guided tour of one of the town's first placer mines, including a view inside of a miner's cabin.

    Experience an underground mine tour, side down a 55-foot ore chute slide, and pan for gold in Eureka Creek!
